Shopping Tips for Boxing Day in Niagara Region 2014 Survive the Crowds and Save Money This Boxing Day

Most of us dread the large lines of impatient, frenzied shoppers on Boxing Day. More than likely, though, that’s exactly what we become once a part of the stampedes trampling through stores and wiping discount shelves clean. So let’s keep our cool this winter by following a few simple Boxing Day shopping tips.

  • Line-Up Early: Show up before stores open to avoid the rush. Sales continue only so long as quantities last, so get there before the product sells out. Moreover, some retailers host door-crasher events!
  • Write a List: Know the sales ahead of time by researching flyers and/or downloading apps; stores often send push notifications this way. Similarly, investigate online deals. You never know, you might not even need to leave your home to save big this boxing day in Niagara.
  • Bring Only Cash: Leave the plastic at home where it belongs. First, this allows you to spend only what you intend. Second, paying with cash is often faster—except for “tap” machines—and anything to escape stores quickly is preferable.
  • Take Transit or Walk: Good luck finding parking. Instead, take a bus or walk to the shops. If you opt to stroll down to the mall, wear comfortable shoes but refrain from bundling up. Although cold outside, you may want to shed those layers in stores or try things on.
  • Wait for Returns: Go ahead and spend your holiday gift card, but save gift returns for another day. Wait until the crowds dissipate before you go in for your money back or for an exchange; most policies give 30 days.
